David is excited to join the team this fall at French Broad River Academy. David will be teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade Spanish.  He will also teach Art, P.E. and be a trip leader.

David graduated from Appalachian State University in 2008 with a degree in Recreation Management.  From there he worked in Costa Rica and Ecuador as a canoe instructor and safety kayaker for a total of 12 months.

This past winter David guided a raft on a 25-day Grand Canyon trip.  After that he worked on the Kern River in California raft guiding and instructing kayak lessons.

David has been drawn to the mountains of North Carolina since he was a child.  His parents grew up in Hendersonville but he grew up in Durham North Carolina.  He attended Camp Mondamin and also did a 21day Outward Bound course in Western North Carolina.

David worked at Camp Mondamin for six summers with his jobs including the head of paddling position.  He is a two-time Wilderness First responder through the Wilderness Medical Association and a two time lifeguard through the Red Cross.  David also has a Swiftwater Rescue certification through the American Canoe Association.

Like Will, David is a whitewater enthusiast but also enjoys all that the North Carolina mountains offer.  Spanish, Whitewater and the opportunity to teach young people has been the focus for David and he is excited to practice all of these skills at French Broad River Academy.
