Willy is incredibly excited to begin his second year at the French Broad River Academy this fall. He will be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies as well as acting as the Watershed Coordinator and head of the PE program.

Willy comes to Asheville from the 250 acre island of Port Isobel, located eleven miles within the Chesapeake Bay. While there, he managed an environmental education center for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for the past three years.

Originally from Connecticut, Willy attended the University of Colorado- Boulder where he received a degree in History with a European focus.

Like Will Yeiser and David Byers, Willy attended Camp Mondamin for four summers as a camper and returned to work for six more as a sailing instructor, trip leader and head counselor.

Willy travelled to Costa Rica with Outward Bound in the Summer of 1999 and followed that trip with a semester in Kenya with NOLS later that fall. He also travelled to Guatemala where he lived with a host family for two-months and studied Spanish one on one with a tutor.  Willy is a trained Wilderness First Responder throughWilderness Medical Associates and a Lifeguard through the American Red Cross.

Willy loves living in western North Carolina with it’s great people, delicious food and epic adventures!!
