FBRA visits RiverLink and continues service learning at Manna Food Bank
Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 10:07PM FBRA visited RiverLink today (Wednesday, December 16th 2009) to participate in an EnviroScape lesson, which is part of RiverLink's Watershed Education Program. EnviroScape is plastic model of a watershed that shows students the effects that pollution can have on water quality. After spending the first half of the year exploring the headwaters and beginning stretches of the French Broad watershed, the EnviroScape helped reinforce the watershed concept in addition to point and non-point source pollution concepts.
Students then visited Manna Food Bank where they continued their service learning curriculum by helping prepare and package food for the MANNAbundance BackPack Program. Students then reflected in their journals about the day's activities and discussed the meaning of the following quote: “Volunteer—not so you can build your resume, but so you can build yourself.” To extend the experience, FBRA will be collecting food items at the Winter Open House tomorrow night to donate to Manna.
