Language Arts Intern-Lecky Haller
"My schooling had a great balance of physical and academic learning that I think is largely missing in our society today. Our classroom teachers were also our coaches on the field. They were experts at both, and are still my heroes today." -Lecky Haller
Transitioning from the world of two-time Olympic whitewater paddling and coaching, Lecky Haller is excited to formally join the FBRA team as a Language Arts Intern under the tutelage of Jason Martin. Lecky holds an interdisciplinary degree in American Studies from Washington College. He is currently the lacrosse coach for the Asheville School, swim coach for Warren Wilson College, as well as a camp counselor and trip leader for Camp Mondamin during the summer.
Lecky has travelled extensively throughout the world and is proficient in Spanish, French, and German. He is also a multi-sport enthusiast and participant, as well as a father. FBRA is delighted to have Lecky's "Olympic" level of focus, determination, team-work, and commitment in the classroom, as well as the surrounding rivers of Western North Carolina.
"Throughout my journeys and adventures, I have learned the invaluable lessons of teamwork, sacrifice, hard work, and respect. I am excited to have the opportunity to pass on some of the wisdom and lessons I have learned along my path as my mentors have done with me. I hope to provide a bridge for mental and physical development and an appreciation for the natural world around us. I feel the French Broad River Academy is the perfect setting for me to instill a love of sport and the outdoors." -Lecky Haller
